Instructions
1.Prepare the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low heat for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
2.Prepare the Ricotta Filling
In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, fresh parsley, salt, and pepper until smooth. Set aside.
3.Cook the Noodles
If using regular lasagna noodles, cook them according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on parchment paper to prevent sticking.
(Skip this step if using oven-ready noodles.)
4.Assemble the Lasagna
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom.
Place a single layer of noodles over the sauce.
Spread ⅓ of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce, and sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
Repeat these layers two more times: noodles, ricotta, meat sauce, mozzarella.
For the final layer, top with noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
5.Bake the Lasagna
Cover the lasagna loosely with foil (to prevent the cheese from burning) and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
6.Let It Rest
Allow the lasagna to rest for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers hold together beautifully.
