Skillet Ground Beef and Cheese Casserole

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the Aromatics:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant (about 5 minutes).
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until no pink remains.
  3. Add Vegetables and Seasoning:
Stir in the cabbage (if using), diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let everything simmer for about 10 minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. Assemble the Casserole:
Sprinkle cheese evenly over the top of the beef mixture in the skillet. If you prefer a creamy version, stir in the heavy cream before adding the cheese.
  5. Bake or Melt the Cheese:
If your skillet is oven-safe, transfer it to a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) and bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly. Alternatively, you can cover the skillet and let the cheese melt on the stovetop over low heat.
  6. Serve:
Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Pair it with a side of garlic green beans or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
