Amigurumi Goose in a Hat Free Pattern

Free Crochet Masterclass: Goose in a Hat by Olesya Kuppyasheva (@lesknits)

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to crochet a little goose in a hat with eyes. The whole bird is crocheted in one piece, with the legs and wings crocheted as part of the body. The beak is added to the finished toy. The hat is removable, and you can either use moving eyes or design the face however you prefer.

Crochet Goose in a Hat: Step-by-Step Instructions

Start with the Head (Hat in Frog Green Color)

  1. Round 1: 6 sc in KA.
  2. Round 2: Crochet the frog hat:
  • Work 4 sc into 1 stitch (forming the eyes), then inc, sc, eye (sc into the same stitch), sc, inc. (Total: 9 sc).
  1. Round 3: (2 sc, inc) x 6 times (12 stitches).
  2. Round 4: Change color to white; crochet 12 sc in the back loops of the previous row. (This leaves front loops for later attaching the brim of the hat).
  3. Rounds 5-6: 12 sc (2 rows).
  4. Round 7: 6 dec (6 stitches). This will form the cheeks, and you’ll pull the thread through this row later, positioning the eyes under the hat.
  5. Rounds 8-9: 6 sc (2 rows).
  6. Round 10: 6 inc (12 stitches).
  7. Round 11: (sc, inc) x 6 times (18 stitches).
  8. Round 12: Add the wings in this row:
  • 5 sc (wing: 3 ch, psc in 3rd ch from hook), 7 sc between wings, wing, 6 sc. (Total: 18 stitches).
  1. Rounds 13-14: 18 sc (2 rows).
  2. Round 15: For the tummy shaping: 3 sc, 6 dec, 2 sc, tail (for the tail, work in the front loops of the stitches, (sc, inc) x 3 times into one stitch). (Total: 12 stitches).
  3. Round 16: 5 sc in the 5th stitch. Change yarn color (for the feet: 4 ch, 2 psc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 ch, sl st into the same stitch, then 2 sc along the chain).
    • 2 sc between the legs, 4 sc, 1 sc behind the tail. (Total: 12 stitches).
  4. Round 17: 6 dec (6 stitches). Close with a needle and finish off.

Finishing Touches

Hat

  • Attach the yarn to the head (where the half stitches were left) and crochet 2 sc into each stitch. Fasten off and hide the yarn ends.

Beak

  • Make an indentation (shaping the beak).
  • Attach the yarn for the beak and crochet 3 sc through the loops. Tie off and hide the yarn.

Eyes

  • Attach safety eyes or moveable eyes as desired.
