
2. Make the Mashed Potato Topping
- While the meat filling is simmering, boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and milk (or cream) and mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- For an extra cheesy topping, mix in grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese.
3. Assemble the Shepherd’s Pie
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Spread the meat filling evenly in a large baking dish.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes on top of the meat layer and smooth it out with a spatula. Use the back of a fork to create ridges on the surface for added texture.
- Optional: Sprinkle additional cheese over the top for a golden crust.
