Biscuits and Gravy with Sausage and Egg Breakfast Casserole


Instructions

1. Prepare the Sausage Gravy

  1. Cook the Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat, crumble in the sausage, and cook until browned. Remove half the sausage to a plate for later use.
  2. Make the Gravy: Keep the remaining sausage in the skillet. Sprinkle the flour over it and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Set aside.

2. Assemble the Casserole

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer the Biscuits: Spread the biscuit quarters evenly across the bottom of the dish.
  3. Add the Eggs: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1/3 cup milk. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the biscuits.
  4. Top with Sausage: Sprinkle the reserved cooked sausage over the egg layer.

3. Add Cheese and Gravy

  1. Cheese Layer: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage.
  2. Gravy Layer: Pour the prepared sausage gravy over the cheese, spreading it evenly.

4. Bake the Casserole

  • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
