Step 3: Make the Mac and Cheese

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the cheese until melted and smooth. Add the cooked pasta and mix well. Season with salt, pepper, and mustard powder (if using).
